In 2001, the Department of Public Safety reported there were 244 motorcycle fatalities, an increase of nearly 25 percent over the previous year. - Left turns. More than 40 percent of all motorcycle v. car accidents in Texas occur at intersections, when a car driver makes a left turn in front of a motorcyclist.
- Blind spots. A motorcyclist riding alongside a car is often out of view of the driver.
- Hazardous road conditions
- Weather conditions
- Large vehicles. A truck, van or other large vehicle can block a motorcyclist from view. Suddenly, the motorcycle may seem to appear out of nowhere.
